ජනාධිපති මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මැතිතුමාගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් ඊයේ (20) පස්වරුවේ මහඔය පොල්ලේබැද්දේ දී, රඹකැන් ඔය ජලාශයේ මංගල දියවර මුදාහැරීම සිදු විය.

මේ සඳහා රුපියල් මිලියන 3900ක් වැය කළ අතර සියලු ඉදිකිරීම් දේශීය ඉංජිනේරුවන්ගේ උපදෙස් මත සිදුකර තිබේ.මෙහි සියලු කටයුතු දේශීය වාරි ඉංජිනේරුවරුන් ඉටුකර ඇති බවත් රඹකැන් ඔය නව ජලාශය අපේ වාරි ඉංජිනේරුවරුන් ඉදිකළ 72 වන මහ වාරි ජලාශය බවත් වාරිමාර්ග අමාත්‍යාංශයේ ලේකම් ඉංජිනේරු අයිවන් ද සිල්වා මහතා පවසයි.


රුපියල් මිලියන 3970 වියදම් කෙරුණු රඹකැන් ඔය ජලාශයේ බැම්ම අඩි 3600ක දිගකින් යුක්ත වන අතර බැම්ම උසින් අඩි 81කින් යුක්ත වේ. කිලෝමීටර් 6.7කින් යුත් ප්‍රධාන ඇළක් හා කිලෝ මීටර් 40ක දිගින් යුතු බෙදුම් ඇළක් ද මෙම සංවර්ධන ව්‍යාපෘතියට අයත් වේ. අක්කර අඩි 45,000ක ජලාශ ධාරිතාවකින් යුතු රඹකැන්ඔය ජලාශය හරහා කුඹුරු අක්කර 3500ක් සහ ගොඩ ඉඩම් අක්කර 1200ක් වගා කිරීමේ හැකියාව ලැබේ.


President Mahinda Rajapaksa commissioned the Rambaken Oya Reservoir at Pollebedde in Maha-Oya yesterday (20) afternoon.

History records that the construction of the tank had commenced during the regime of King Sadhhathissa in 400 AD. However, the work never completed.

Rupees 3,970 million has been spent on the reservoir, which was constructed utilizing state funds and local engineering technology. The Rambaken Oya reservoir has been constructed by blocking the Rambaken Oya with a bund spanning 3,600 feet in length and 81 feet in height. The project provides solutions to the water problems in the agricultural activities as well as to the acute drinking water shortage. The Rambaken Oya area will also be developed as the 10th Mahaweli zone, in parallel to this scheme. This project will immensely benefit the people of the Eastern province.
