Dr Neelika Malawige
 Dr. Neelika Malavige of Department of Microbiology published a Patent for identification of peptide sequences specific to Dengue.  This is a part of the research conducted by Centre for Dengue Research (CDR) of University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

Dengue viral infections have become one of the most important mosquito borne viral infections in the world and are one of the major emerging infectious diseases. It is estimated that 2.1 million cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF)/dengue shock syndrome (DSS) occur every year resulting in 21 ,000 deaths.


The present invention relates to markers for detecting dengue virus infection, and to the use of the markers for diagnostic and monitoring purposes. The invention also relates to the use of the markers for the induction of immune responses for preventative and therapeutic purposes and for detecting and monitoring the immune responses following intervention.
